Vice President elections 2017 for 15th Vice President of India

Election Commission of India announced Election Schedule for Vice Presidential elections in India. Moreover according to ECI or Election Commission of India Vice Presidential elections will be on 5 August 2017. Whereas present Vice President is Mohammad Hamid Ansari.

When will Vice Presidential elections start?

ECI said that present Vice President Mr. Ansari will complete his term on 10th August 2017. Therefore Election Commission will conduct Vice Presidential Elections also. Additionally ECI plans for Presidential Elections in India 2017 as well. Election Commission also said that Electoral College is going to elect next Vice President of India.

Who elects Vice President of India?

Electoral College elects Vice President of India. Moreover members of both Houses of the Parliament are part of Electoral College. While total members of this Electoral College are 790. Moreover in Rajya Sabha there are 233 elected members. Whereas nominated members are 12.

Apart from this there are 543 elected members in Lok Sabha. And nominated members in Lok Sabha are 2. Thus total comes to 790 members. Further ECI planned all details of this election schedule. In this way they do not have problem in future.

Schedule of Vice Presidential elections 2017

  • Last date for Vice Presidential nominations is 18th July 2017
  • Date for inspection is 19 July 2017
  • Withdrawal of Vice Presidential (nominated) candidature is 21 July 2017
  • Date of Vice Presidential election is 5 August 2017 and
  • Date of counting of votes is 5 August 2017

In addition Election Commission of India announced some more things. It decided to appoint Secretary General to Rajya Sabha. Now role of Secretary General will be Returning Officer for Elections.

Even there will be Assistant Returning Officers. Moreover here ECI will appoint other officers also. In this way they help Returning Officers. Points to remember

  • Candidate must submit nomination paper from 11 am to 3 pm
  • Or even proposers or seconders can give nomination paper
  • Minimum 20 electors must subscribe nomination paper as proposers
  • While other 20 electors should subscribe nomination paper as seconders
  • Elector can subscribe as proposer or seconder on one nomination paper
  • Security deposit is Rs. 15, 000
  • Additionally this security deposit is for election

Rules for Vice Presidential elections India 2017

Authorities conduct elections through secret ballot. In addition Election Commission has power to act on violations. Therefore all parties, nominated candidates must follow rules of ECI.
