Ram Nath Kovind, 14th President of India takes Oath

Ram Nath Kovind became 14th President of India after presidential elections results were announced. Chief Justice of India J S Khehar administered Oath of Office to Ram Nath Kovind in special ceremony at Central Hall of Parliament New Delhi. As a result Ram Nath Kovind became 14th President of India.

Ceremonies begin at Central Hall

Many dignitaries attended swearing in ceremony at Parliament. Some of them are Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Mahajan, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Other people who attended swearing in ceremony were Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, Diplomats, Ambassadors, MPs. Even senior military and civil officers were part of oath taking ceremony.

Facts about 14th President Ram Nath Kovind

President Ram Nath Kovind is second Dalit to become Prez of India. While President Kovind succeeded 13th President of India Pranab Mukherjee. Prez Kovind also escorted former President of India Mr. Mukherjee to Mukherjees new house. Later President elect Ram Nath Kovind went to Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Prez Ram Nath Kovind is son of a farmer. Mr. Kovind became Governor of Bihar three years ago. He also became Member of Rajya Sabha two times. In addition Mr. Nath is a lawyer who appeared in both Supreme Court and Delhi High Court. While earlier he represented India at United Nations or UN in New York.

Before entering politics Mr. Ram Nath was a lawyer for 16 years. And his law practise continued till 1993 in Delhi High Court as well as Supreme Court. He also served as 35th Governor of Bihar with his term from 2015 to 2017.

Life events of Ram Nath Kovind, 14th President of India

Current President of India was also Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha between 1994 and 2006. After being elected as Prez of India in 2017, Mr. Nath assumed office on 25th of July 2017. He had also served on Board of Management of Dr. B R Ambedkar University in Lucknow.

Besides he was also on Board of Governors of IIM Calcutta. Additionally he represented India at UN where he addressed United Nations General Assembly back in October of 2002.

Indian Presidential elections

Another aspect is that Ram Nath Kovind worked as top aide to former Prime Minister of India Morarji Desai. And for Presidential elections he stood against Indian National Congress candidate, Meira Kumar. On other hand Mr. Kovind almost won two thirds of votes from electoral college.

Thus making him 14th President of India. As a result President Kovinds term of office began on 25 July 2017. Besides Pranab Mukherjee term in Presidents office ended on 24th July 2017.

Ram Nath Kovind who is former Governor of Bihar had submitted his resignation some time ago only. It is so because he could contest for President of India elections. Further Pranab Mukherjee 13th President of India accepted Kovinds resignation on 20th June 2017. This is exactly one month before Kovind won Presidential elections on 20 July 2017.

Counting of votes

After counting of votes Ram Nath Kovind received 65. 6% votes. While on other hand former Lok Sabha Speaker and Presidential candidate Meira Kumar received 34. 35% votes. Thus Ram Nath Kovind became first BJP candidate to be elected to post of Prez of India.
